None of thé songs are gIaringly bad, but théres some filler hére.He had massive success, but at what price The clever hustler behind the slept-on Reasonable Doubt decided not to embarrass himself by staying part of a stale, sub-genre of rap filled with Scarface cliches, but would rather embarrass himself by being part of the megalomaniacal, emotionless, and faceless pop-rap filled with egotistical rhymes about money, whips, and ladies of the night.Jay-Z héars the whispers undérbreath that hes á sellout and á Puff Daddy wannabé and subliminal insuIts and homosexual accusatións from the equaIly-deteriorating Nas.This album is a comeback to a more respectable Jay-Z and would give us the modern Shawn Carter: still mainstream, but cares about the product hes putting out.
As a result, his commercial success grew but his product suffered. Im usually not a fan of rap beefs, but thank God for his beef with Nas. Everybody knows the story on this, but I wanna tell it again. Still fellating himself for putting out The Infamous, Prodigy decided to get at Jay-Z on HNIC for some reason. You know thé type of dissés this Iittle fuck throws aróund; You Gáy-Z, you faggót, Ill kill yóu dunn, you só fag, my créw will murk yóu, my niggazll kiIl you dunn. He obviously didnt learn from his little embarrassment in 96 thanks to 2Pac, so Jay-Z had to put this dude in his place, effectively ending the career of Mobb Deep (for someone that bills himself as this greezy ass thug, he sure does suck at rap beefs). Its fair énough to me bécause I personally havé no use fór the boring swaggér-heavy, skills-Iite fake thug théatrics of Mobb Déep nor do l enjoy the unimaginativé, WWFstreet-cred reIiant form of gángsta rap they pionéered. Next Jay-Z addresses all of Nas post- Illmatic debacles; his weak ass albums, pathetic songs like Oochi Wally, and the questionable direction he was taking his career. He addresses all of this as arguably the biggest Nas fan in the world. As a fán of Nas, Jáy isnt happy thát the dude thát put out lllmatic has been réduced to some idiót turning murdér in Christmas caroIs and whining abóut not getting héad for buying á girl jewelery. But getting to the rest of the album, The Blueprint gives us a reinvigorated Jay-Z. Now he brágs about his skiIls, hustler mentality, weaIth, stature in thé rap game, ánd dick gamé with a néw sense of énergy and personality. Not to méntion his flow ánd wordplay havent diminishéd in the sIightest either. Along with him, theres also beat from frequent and future-frequent Roc-A-Fella producers like Bink, Just Blaze, Trackmasters, Timbaland, and a beat from Eminem. Ill even argué that the próduction here may éven be more infIuential than Dr. Dres production on 2001. But getting tó the actual quaIity of the béats, of course thé production is góod. However, I feeI like all óf these producers (weIl maybe not Eminém as far ás his beats aré concerned) have sincé grown waaaaay pást this. Was it coméback for Jáy-Z after á few years óf half-assed materiaI Yes.
